Vicki Larson was our luncheon speaker. Vicki writes the Lifestyles column for the Marin Independent Journal. She'll present her upbeat stance on aging as a woman. She'll also bring copies of her new book, ‘Not Too Old for That,’ to be signed and sold. Her book seeks to bust the negative, sexist and ageist narratives of aging as a woman, which are harmful to women’s emotional, physical, sexual, romantic and financial health.

Our speaker, Richard Cutler, a DeYoung docent, presented the upcoming exhibition, Ramses the Great. Richard joined the Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco Docent Program in 2018 after a 42-year career as an Emergency Physician with Kaiser Permanente. Richard’s interest in art & antiquities started at an early age with regular trips with his mother to the Philadelphia Museum of Art. As an undergraduate, he focused on Art History, culminating with a semester on Renaissance Studies in Florence, Italy. Richard has been an avid Museum goer ever since and enjoys sharing the cultural and historical context of the museum’s artworks with museum visitors.

PROGRAM: Joe Miller on "Wild Women Suffragists: How they got a reputation for being sex radicals, and how that reputation harmed their movement's progress." ("Suffragette" refers more to the English sufffragists, and some consider it to be a derogatory term.) Joe C. Miller began studying women's history in 1980 while teaching in San Francisco. He is a member of the Institute for Historical Study and has an M.A. in psychology. He studies music and psychology at York University and received a Master's degree in psychology from the University of Western Ontario. He is also a musician

PROGRAM: Our speaker was Liberté Reilly, a docent at Filoli. Filoli is a country house in a formal garden setting surrounded by an estate in Woodside, California. Owned by the National Trust for Historic Preservation, it is both a California Historical Landmark and listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
Canadian Thanksgiving Celebration

Many members expressed regret at not having the Canadian Thanksgiving celebration and luncheon last year. So, we were on again!
We invited friends and family, including children, to this festive event with a wonderful turkey dinner and all the trimmings. A lovely vegetarian substitution of a polenta tower with vegetables was also offered. A no-host bar was also available.

Once again, Suzan Devetlian of L’Vian boutique in Burlingame graciously provided the models’ clothes and actively helped to make this another successful event! Some of our lovely Canadian Women's Club members and Consulate staffers modeled for us. Raffle with lovely prizes – tickets were available at the door.

Virginia Ernster spent her career as an epidemiologist on the faulty of UCSF School of Medicine. She also was the Associate Director of UCSF Comprehensive Cancer Center. She is now retired and a docent at the Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco. She loves sharing works of art and the stories behind them -- with tours of the museums and speaking engagements -- to the community. Her presentation was Monet: The Late Years.
